Applications are being accepted for admission to top-up studies at the University of Ghana (UG) Legon for the 2024–2025 academic year. Admissions for the UG Legon Diploma/HND to Degree are available to applicants who

Diploma To Degree Applicants

1. Applicants In Possession Of University Of Ghana Diplomas

A Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 3.25 or better (for Legon Campus and City Campus programmes) or 2.5 or better (for Distance Learning programmes) in any of the under-listed programmes qualifies holders of University of Ghana diplomas or recognised equivalents to apply to the SAME area of study and, if necessary, to be supported for admission with two additional subjects in a related field.

Diploma holders  will be admitted to Level 200 or Level 300 in accordance with their field of study and FGPA. Level 100 admission will apply to the School of Veterinary Medicine. The subjects covered by all admissions will be the same as those covered by the diploma.

Qualified applicants will be admitted into the Bachelor of Science programme in Medical Laboratory Sciences

First Degree Holders:
On the advice of a special committee that the dean appoints, a candidate with a bachelor’s degree in biological or physical sciences from an accredited university may be given consideration for admission. The special committee will review the applicant’s transcript and the degree program’s course material in order to assess the applicant’s prior training and provide recommendations to the university’s admissions board.

Other Qualifications:
a.    Applicants shall be required to attend a selection interview.
b.    Applicants in possession of the 3-year Post-Secondary Certificates in Radiography and Medical Laboratory Technology may be considered for admission to Level 100 of the B.Sc. (Diagnostic Radiography/Therapy Radiography) and B.Sc. (Medical Laboratory Sciences) degree programmes respectively. In addition, such applicants MUST have WASSCE/SSSCE passes in three (3) Core subjects and two (2) electives in science or credit passes in five subjects including English Language, Science and Mathematics at the GCE ‘O’ Level as well as passes in two science subjects at the GCE ‘A’ Level. Applicants will be required to sit an entrance examination and pass an interview.
c.    Applicants in possession of a Diploma in Laboratory Science may be considered for admission to Medical Laboratory Sciences. Applicants will be required to sit an entrance examination and pass an interview.

m.    General Agriculture
Qualified applicants will be admitted into the Bachelor of Science programme in Agriculture

n.    Veterinary Medicine

Applicants must have a Diploma in Animal Health (Distinction)

  First Degree Holders:
Holders of B.Sc. Degree in Animal Science, Biological Science or Allied Health Sciences are eligible to apply.

o.    Home Science (Family & Consumer Sciences)
An applicant in possession of a Diploma in any of the following areas is eligible to apply.
o    Textiles & Clothing

Qualified applicants will be admitted into the Bachelor of Science programme in Family and Consumer Sciences.

 

School of Nursing and Midwifery

  • All applicants to the University of Ghana School of Nursing and Midwifery programme (Regular or Distance Education) MUST possess ALL the following:
  • A Diploma in Nursing from a recognized educational institution. [NOTE: Health Assistant Clinical (HAC) or Nurse Assistant Clinical (NAC) certificates are NOT acceptable].
  • The academic transcript MUST be signed by the Principal/Head of the educational institution before upload.
  • A final copy of the original professional Nursing certificate is needed. The certificate MUST be uploaded (A provisional certificate is NOT acceptable).
  • Applicants are to choose from the given speciality track/option based on their qualification obtained in the Diploma training. For example, an applicant with Diploma in Registered General Nursing (RGN) MUST select the Bachelor of Science in Registered General Nursing track/option only.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO DISTANCE EDUCATION APPLICANTS:

  • Midwifery certificates are NOT accepted for the Distance Education BSc. Nursing programme.
  • The Bachelor of Science in Midwifery degree program is NOT offered as a distance education programme

Higher National Diploma (HND) to Degree Applicants

Holders of Higher National Diplomas (HND) from a recognized Technical University /Polytechnic with a Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 4.00 (for Legon Campus and City Campus programmes) and 3.25 or better (for Distance Learning programmes) in any of the under-listed programmes are eligible to apply to the SAME area of study, and where required, supported with one other subject in a related field, for admission.

Applicants may be asked to write an entrance examination and/or attend an interview as part of the admission process. HND holders will be admitted to  the same subject area as their HND qualification.

How To Apply For UG Legon Diploma/HND To Degree Admissions

1. GHANAIAN APPLICANTS

University of Ghana online application E-VOUCHERS can be obtained by Ghanaian applicants for GH¢220.00 at the following banks: Access Bank, Ecobank, Republic Bank, Agricultural Development BankGhana Commercial BankZenith BankUniversal Merchant Bank, Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG), Prudential Bank and Fidelity Bank.

WASSSCE/SSSCE Applicants And Ghanaians With Foreign Background

WASSCE/SSSCE The following should be done by candidates and Ghanaians who apply with foreign credentials from educational institutions that offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), such as Alpha Beta, Faith Montessori International School, Ghana International School, New Nation International School, SOS – Hermann GMEINER International College, Tema International School, etc.

Before being served, applicants must provide their names, cell phone numbers, and email addresses on the bank voucher at any of the banks mentioned above. However, those without email addresses won’t face any disadvantages. They will receive a confirmation on their phones regarding their Pin. Applicants should CAREFULLY follow the instructions after obtaining the e-voucher. Following the application has been submitted on-line, the Pin should be kept in a safe place as they may be required by applicants when assessing their admission status at a later date.

 

DIPLOMA/HND TO DEGREE APPLICANTS

After buying the e-voucher, Diploma/HND to Degree applicants are expected to scan and attach the following documents to their online application forms:

  • Diploma/HND transcripts
  • Where applicable, certified copies of ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level certificates/result slips

The pay-in-slips together with applicants’ certificates/result slips should be scanned and attached to the application form before submission online. The certificates/results slips should be scanned into one PDF or WORD document and attached to the application form.

2. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND GHANAIANS APPLYING FROM ABROAD

International applicants and Ghanaians applying from abroad should NOT buy the e-voucher. They should use the following link to access the online application form for completion and submission.
