Entry Requirements Into The Distance Education Programme

WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS

General Entry Requirements
To be admitted to any programme, Senior High School graduates must possess:
At least credits (A1 – C6 in WASSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science (for Science applicants) or Social Studies (for non-Science applicants) and three elective subjects in General Arts/Business/Science/ Vocational, with a total aggregate not exceeding 30. In addition, Science applicants should have at least a grade C6 in WASSCE/D in SSSCE in Social Studies/Life Skills and non-Science applicants should also have at least a grade C6 in WASSCE/D in SSSCE in Integrated Science/Core Science.

The required subjects for specific programmes (in calculating aggregates) are as follows:

Bachelor Of Arts

  • Core Mathematics, English & Social Studies
  • Any Three Electives
  • Applicants must have at least C6 in Elective Mathematics to read Economics.

Bachelor Of Arts In Administration

  • Core Mathematics, English & Social Studies
  • Any Three Electives

Bachelor Of Science In Administration

  • Core Mathematics, English & Social Studies
  • Any Three Electives

Bachelor Of Science In Information Technology

  • Core Mathematics, English & Integrated Science

MATURE APPLICANTS

Entry Requirements:

Applicants must be at least 25 years at the time of application.

Applicants must register for, attend and complete the University of Ghana Access Course and pass the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination conducted by the University.

Applicants who pass the Entrance Examination must purchase an e-voucher from designated Banks to access the UG online application form.

The Access Course is run at the Learning Centres in the 10 regional capitals.

Admissions will be into Level 100 of the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Administration Programmes.

APPLICANTS IN POSSESSION OF UNIVERSITY OF GHANA DIPLOMAS OR RECOGNISED EQUIVALENT DIPLOMAS

Applying to the SAME area of study and supporting themselves with two additional topics in a relevant field, holders of University of Ghana diplomas or recognised equivalents with a Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 3.00 or better in any of the under-listed programmes are eligible for admission.Additionally, these applicants MUST have credit passes in five subjects, including English Language, Science, and Mathematics at the GCE “O” Level and passes in two subjects at the GCE “A” Level OR WASSCE/SSSCE passes in three (3) Core courses and two (2) electives in the respective disciplines.

Bachelor Of Science In Nursing

Candidates must have completed a nursing diploma programme at an accredited university and have an overall grade point average (FGPA) of at least 3.00. Furthermore, applicants of this type MUST possess credit passes in five subjects, including English Language, Science, and Mathematics at the GCE “O” Level and two subjects at the GCE “A” Level, or WASSCE/SSSCE passes in three (3) Core courses and two (2) electives in the relevant areas.

All Diploma holders will be admitted to Level 200 in the same subject area as their diploma qualification

HOLDERS OF HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMAS (HND)

Higher National Diploma (HND) holders from accredited polytechnics who have completed any of the underlisted programmes with a Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 3.25 or higher are eligible to apply to the SAME programme and, if necessary, to be supported for admission with one additional subject in a related field. Furthermore, applicants of this type MUST possess credit passes in five subjects, including English Language, Science, and Mathematics at the GCE “O” Level and two subjects at the GCE “A” Level, or WASSCE/SSSCE passes in three (3) Core courses and two (2) electives in the relevant areas.

All HND holders will be admitted to Level 200 in the same subject area as their HND qualification.

General Admission Requirements

To be admitted to a Diploma programme, a candidate must satisfy the following minimum requirements:

SSSCE Holders:

i.     Six Passes (A-D) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics; and

ii.    At least three (3) of the passes must be in subjects in General Arts, Business or Science.

WASSCE Holders:

i.      Six Passes (A1-D7) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics; and

ii.     Must have a minimum of C6 in any three (3) subjects in General Arts, Business or Science.

GHANAIAN APPLICANTS

WASSSCE/SSSCE Applicants And Ghanaians With Foreign Background

WASSCE/SSSCE applicants and Ghanaians who apply with foreign qualifications from schools which write the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the IGCSE such as Alpha Beta, Faith Montessori International School, Ghana International School, New Nation International School, SOS – Hermann GMEINER International College and Tema International School etc., should do the following:

At any of the Banks listed above, applicants will be required to indicate their names, mobile phone numbers and e-mail addresses on the bank voucher before they are served. Those without e-mail addresses will however not be disadvantaged. A confirmation of their Pin will be sent to their mobile phones. After purchasing the e-voucher, applicants should CAREFULLY follow the instructions given. After the application has been submitted on-line, the Pin should be kept in a safe place as they may be required by applicants when assessing their admission status at a later date.

UNIVERSITY OF GHANA DIPLOMA/HND TO DEGREE APPLICANTS

Diploma/HND to Degree applicants are expected to scan and attach the following documents to their online application forms:
